Starting off the next UFC event could help set the tone for the rest of the night. As such, you will get to see two up and coming bantamweight fighters in Gustavo Lopez and Anthony Birchak.
Date: November 7, 6:00 PM
Venue: UFC Apex
Watch on: ESPN+
Betting Preview: Gustavo Lopez (11-5-0)
Lopez is coming off of a decision loss back in June against Merab Dvalishvili. About half of those losses have been by decision anyway.
His fighting resume shows five wins by knockout, five by submission, and one by decision. He also has seven out of his 11 wins being finished within the first round by a combination of knockouts and submissions.
In his recent loss, it was his UFC debut. That fight itself, even though it went to decision, he was greatly outstriked 73-14.
Lopez was also taken down 13 times in that bout, with a takedown defense at 27%. If he wants to succeed in this fight, he will definitely need to do a better job defensively.
Betting Preview: Anthony Birchak (16-6-0)
Birchak will be making his first appearance back in the UFC octagon since back in 2016. He is stepping in on short notice to replace Felipe Colares as he tested positive for COVID-19.
He has fought in other leagues since his departure from the UFC. His fighting resume shows that he has five wins by knockout, eight by submission, and three by decision.
“El Toro,” based on his 2016 stats in the UFC, has a striking accuracy at 35% and a grappling accuracy at 16%. He lands 3.98 significant strikes a minute while absorbing 2.26. This is a solid ratio as he delivers slightly more strikes than he takes on.
Birchak has a takedown defense at 83% and a significant strike defense at 66%. He also averages 0.68 takedowns per 15 minutes.

By looking at both of these fighters on paper, you can get a pretty clear picture as to how this fight could go. With that being said, this could present an appealing betting opportunity.
Lopez had suffered from a lot of takedowns in his UFC debut. However, his opponent was not able to submit him, and the fight went to a decision.
Birchak has been staying busy in other fighting competitions. He is on a three-fight win streak, and his last two bouts have ended in the first round, with both of them being submissions.
As this fight starts, you should expect to see Birchak look for an opportunity to take down Lopez. By that point, it could just be a matter of time before he attempts a submission.
