16.40 – Betway Handicap – 4f
A wide-open contest with several in with chances. GIOGIOBBO boasts an excellent strike-rate on the surface (32%) and despite not seeing the winner’s enclosure since 2018, the application of first-time cheekpieces could have the desired effect alongside his 2Ib lower mark then when second over C&D twice this year in higher-graded events.
FANTASY KEEPER was an excellent third in today’s headgear here a couple of weeks ago and it would come as no surprise to see him involved again under Tom Marquand. Whilst ALSVINDER is clearly in good order at present and there’s no reason why he won’t go well.
Selections: GIOGIOBBO, FANTASY KEEPER, ALSVINDER
17.10 – Betway Novice Stakes – 1m4f
ALPHA THETA looked a filly to follow when landing a C&D maiden impressively in December. She’s entitled to improve physically and mentally and, with the likelihood of better to come, she’s handed the vote to make it 2-2. Furthermore, she’s Mark Johnston’s only representative on the card.
Selections: ALPHA THETA
17.40 – Bombardier Handicap – 7f
FLY TRUE posted her best performance for a while when going close over C&D and she is very well-handicapped on a mark of 55. Being a three-time C&D winner, she should be thereabouts at the very least being the in-form horse against mostly exposed rivals.
It hasn’t been plain-sailing for the once capable DE BRUYNE HORSE since his two-year-old days, but he’s a winner over C&D from a 9Ib higher mark and if the first-time visor can spark a revival, he’s certainly well-handicapped to cause a minor surprise.
Selections: FLY TRUE, DE BRUYNE HORSE
18.10 – Bombardier British Hopped Amber Beer Handicap – 7f
With an impressive all-weather record and form figures on artificial surfaces reading artificial surfaces read 2117221312, it’s difficult to ignore the obvious claims of the Tim Easterby-trained PERFECT SWISS. She was no match for Star Of St James here 12 days ago, but she missed the break, and the winner has gone in again since to give the form a significant boost.
Of the rest, THE GREAT HEIR has often competed in better-quality events for Kevin Ryan and almost capitalised on a much-reduced mark last time out when touched off by a neck. From only a 1Ib higher mark on this occasion, he looks competitive on form.
Selections: PERFECT SWISS, THE GREAT HEIR
SECRET HANDSHEIKH made his fibresand debut over C&D last month, finishing a creditable second when just in front of a subsequent winner. He’s 1Ib lower here, so he’s effectively well-treated and Hollie Doyle maintains the partnership, making him an attractive proposition from a betting stance.
There was plenty to like about MARVE’s breakthrough success over C&D 11 days ago, keeping on strongly to score in the manner of a horse going places. His opening handicap mark could be quite lenient and the form of his win last time out has been boosted.
Selections: SECRET HANDSHEIKH, MARVE
19.10 – Betway Casino Handicap – 6f
DIRCHILL is a multiple winner on the turf who has been knocking on the door to suggest his turn is near on this surface. With Hollie Doyle booked to do the steering, he’s taken to gain an overdue success.
Of the others, KATELLI rates the biggest threat if taking to the track, based on the evidence of his good second at Wolverhampton last time out. He’s 1Ib higher but looks open to plenty more improvement and is feared most.
Selections: DIRCHILL, KATELLI
